Plug Aeration – A lawn will need aeration if it is highly compacted. Soil needs space, or a loose composition, for fertilizer, air and water to enter. Compacted soil causes water to run off. Grass roots will then grow towards the surface in search of water. Therefore, shallow rooted grass becomes vulnerable to disease, insects and drought.
Lime – The pH of a lawn ideally should be 6.5 to 7. A balanced pH will enable the grass plants to better utilize the fertilizer. Most lawns in Western New York will have a low pH if there is a problem. Lime is used to raise the pH of the soil. We use a pelletized lime that spreads like a granular product and produces less mess.
